The Contemporary Irish art society was formed in the year 1962 with the major aim of promoting Contemporary Irish artists. This society encouraged the Irish artists by way of purchasing and donating the art works.
The Irish Museum of Modern art was opened in 1991 and it is the most important national institution in Ireland to collect and exhibit modern and contemporary art. This museum held a major display of the famous Contemporary Irish artist Dorothy Cross in 2005. Dorothy Cross is popular for both contemporary sculptures and paintings. Her most famous sculptural work was her creation of Cow and snake. This piece of art explores the symbolic significance of cows to milk and snake to poison.
The Irish Museum of modern art also contains the collections of another Contemporary Irish artist James Coleman. He often depicts the social situation with a precision, which creates narrative uncertainty.
The Irish Museum of Modern art conducted Contemporary Irish art exhibition. They exhibited their 50 years of Contemporary Irish art collection. This exhibition paid homage to contemporary Irish artists who worked to drive forward the development of the society.
